Understanding the TMJ: Assessment and Treatment Strategies

Eligibility
This training is open to all healthcare professionals, including chiropractors.
This two-day course is designed for physiotherapists who already treat jaw disorders or who wish to start doing so. As a complement to the courses offered by the OPPQ (Ordre professionnel de la physiothérapie du Québec), several factors will be reviewed and analyzed to see their impact on the TMJ (such as posture, breathing, etc.).
(50% theory, 50% practice)
General objectives
The main objective of the course is to leave with concrete tools to assess and treat the TMJ.
Specific objectives
Learn to palpate the main intraoral muscles of the TMJ;
Understand the biomechanics of the TMJ;
Understand the implication of posture and breathing on TMJ disorders;
Realize the impact and importance of cervical mobility to treat TMJ cases;
Practice TMJ assessment and treatment techniques;
Deepen dental knowledge, occlusal splints and analyze the imaging used by dentists (panorex);
Realize the importance of assessing and treating the TMJ in people who have chronic headaches and migraines;
Analyze case histories in order to be more comfortable from the end of the course to implement the techniques learned during the course.

This training provides 14 hours of continuing education credits.
